The following settings should give you similar results to the original game. Save this text in a autoexec.cfg file. Save it into your "basetf" folder.
cl_decals "1" // decals "on"
cl_decals_time "10" // decals remain for 10 seconds...
cl_decals_fadetime "0" //.... no fade - they just disappear.
With the default settings, the decals started to fade right away, then after a period of 20 seconds, they disappear altogether. This made them look too transparent. Blood needs to look "sticky"

Our current aim is to have all of E1M1 done and ready with single-player for the next public beta. We have no real date set for this yet as there are a couple problems which we need to have fixed engine side which sit on a long list.
Great decals! It looks a thousand times better than the other effect, which looked like some kid got loose with a red crayola washable marker that was drying out.
Hmm.... Good Work! - Just remove the bloody hand decal, cuz that just does not fit good with the rest of the stuff - Just think about it: Why would the player touch the ceiling and the floor multiple times when damaged?
