As I said I do not know for sure, but it sure looks like someone ripped that from a some long forgotten design document.
Most interesting.... If only we could find this mysterious one.

If you liked that, then hear some of the other songs from Fright Night's soundtrack. I'm think that it should definitely be one of the influences to Blood III.

I songs on that soundtrack I most recommend include Autograph's "You Can't Hide From the Beast Inside," Deborah Holland's "Come to Me," White Sister's "Save Me Tonight," and Sparks' "Armies of the Night," and Ian Hunter's "Good Man in a Bad Time." Those songs feel like they could fit the atmosphere of the levels for Blood II, and for a Blood III, of course. Devo's "Let's Talk" and Evelyn "Champagne"'s "Give it Up" don't really seem Blood-like, but they're among my favorite tunes.... Well, actually, the whole album is very well done. It's just so 80s.

Here's the trailers for both Fright Night films, and some nifty clips.

Hey BEAST. Thanks for the linkage, I will be certain to give them a look and listen through. Always on the hunt for some nee kind of inspirations for Blood stuff! :)

Regarding Revelations, it was a pity it never got off the ground. Single player B2 maps are next to non-existent.

By chance, I re-discovered the horror comedy series Return of the Living Dead through soundtrack and trailer clips. I totally see the influence of the films on Blood 1, particularly the zombies moaning "brains!" and the corpses being stored in sealed barrels. Here are the trailers for the first two films to show what I mean.

It got me thinking. What if you had the corpse barrels from Blood 1 be sort of like the Trioxin Barrels from RotLD? If you crack them with a pitchfork, the corpses will come to life, and become zombies. If you destroy them with explosives, then no zombie rises. It be kind of similar to the behavior of the Protozoid Slimer eggs from Duke 3D.

Then there's the 80s horror comedy aspect. A great deal of slasher horror as we know today came from that decade, as well as those rare horror comedies like Evil Dead 2. Perhaps most of Blood 3 could be written as if it were an 80s horror comedy (set in the 20s, of course).

I still want to use The Untouchables to the inspire the 20s setting of Blood 3.

And Unforgiven for the brutal Old Western backstory of Caleb, and for some of Caleb's weaponry.

Somehow, we need to combine all of these, and do a gameplay trailer with this as the theme song.

I was under the impression that some of the barrels actually do contain actual zombies that attacked the player when broke. Or was that just a false memory? :?

Nah. They just burst with bloody guts and barrel debris, and that's it. It would've been awesome if Blood 1's engine was able to pull that off.

I haven't seen RotLD yet, but the concept itself just seems so brilliant. A rehash of NotLD with humor and little bit of military satire.... What if the Cabal had agents within the American army during WWI? That might enable them to pull off certain Herbert West-like experiments for their organization. Perhaps they first smuggled corpses from the battlefield in barrels.

On the subject of using stuff from The Untouchables, here's an idea. In The Untouchables, there were few people the Eliot Ness could trust. Most of the professional policemen were bribed or leverage on them to undermine the force. So, when Caleb emerges in 1920s America (in Texas, or somewhere more urbane?). perhaps you could have all kinds of NPCs who promise to help Caleb, and they all harbor signs that they may be Cabal. Maybe the NPCs would be so caught up in their fanaticism, they'd think that Caleb wouldn't notice that they aren't trust worthy. It could be in a urban area where the townspeople, police, urchins, and stock brokers are all Cabal, and try to trap Caleb when he's trying to be inconspicuous. I like the idea of Cabal Fanatics driving those black mobster cars, and doing tommy gun drive-bys, or even turf wars with other lesser cultists.

I just finished playing LucasArts' Outlaws. Annoyingly maze-like in places, but overall an inspired game. It's like creators took what worked in Dark Forces, and took a little further by using the Jedi Engine to create a classic Western-styled cinematic experience. It still has its flaws, but I like what they did with the engine, and I love how the second level was designed.

The interesting thing about Outlaws is that it resembles Western gunslinger cross between Dark Forces and Redneck Rampage. The style of the enemies and how they die make think of Redneck Rampage's enemies, plus some of the level design has a bit of Redneck vibe in their layout. (I wonder if a member of Xatrix's team had something to do with the style). The civilians run around very similarly to the civilians from Blood, which I found appropriate. The gameplay, from the sounds and jumping mechanics, to the killing enemies with one or two shots, all reminded me of Dark Forces.

The number one addition which makes it different from Dark Forces is that you can swim in water: that's a feature that Dark Forces can't implement, even in some of the fan levels which allow for scuba diving (though Dark XL's completion might rectify that). Other features which seemed ahead of its time included reloading and the stamina meter. The reloading aspect reminds me of the reloading used in [adult swim]'s clever flash game Westerado (which I totally recommend checking out).

The boss fights were very easy, but then, I fighting against people, not supermen. I love after I beat the bosses, I cut instantly to cutscene (except for the first time I did it on level two, because I wasn't finished getting all the keys and opening all the doors). They're more believable than some of the boss fights in No One Lives Forever, like the Elite Guard, who are way too freaking hard despite the fact that they dress so skimpily. Outlaws bosses probably shouldn't have been too easy, but they were well built up.

Now, for the weapons, some remind me of Blood, while others I would wish to see it Blood. The dynamite is not as fun to throw as Blood's, but I like how they are lit and thrown. There's a sawed-off shotgun as well as a full length double-barrel shotgun, and you got to manually reload after each burst. The Portable Gatling Gun is a fun destructing weapon, though it limits your mobility. The knife weapon can be thrown, but it's alternate fire allows you to just stab people with it. Overall, I'd like to see some of Outlaws' weapons used in the Blood setting (the Dark XL engine intends to cover Blood as well, so it may be possible).

I recently checked out the Outlaws mod for Half-Life. I liked it, though I wish it wasn't just for multiplayer. It also made me think about the attempted Blood mod for Half-Life awhile ago (I don't know if it's still being worked on). It made me wish that some other LucasArts inspired mods for Half-Life were being developed, like an HL Dark Forces.

The only Western games I can see being Blood-ified are Mad Dog McGree and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath. There's Gun, but I don't know much about it.

I also beat No One Lives Forever. So many things are good in that game, and yet so many other things are done wrong.
