you guys be nice

DustyStyx shakes a stern finger

Sure it's possible, but not by the Transfusion team... at least not until id decides to release the Doom 3 / Tech 4 source code.

Wait a second...I've seen D3 mods that totally changed the game system and animations. See on Youtube, they even made a Shenmue-like named Zombie Slayer.

Animations and such are easy enough to change. PPl mod HL2 all the time (the "Source engine", not to be confused with HL2 source code).

The thing is that we prefer full functionality of the engine, where we can:
1. Distribute a FULL game for FREE
2. Edit the source code of our game

I understand. But you could at least try to remake the Way of All Flesh.

This is a question which is covered in the FAQ, so the simple answer is no.

The longer answer is that the Transfusion project is not going to. There are a few reasons:

1) Doom 3 is currently a commercial game with a closed engine. While one could make a mod for Doom 3 it means it's limited to Doom 3 (until the source code is released in a few years from now). We want people to be able to download and play it without owning any other game in the first place.

2) We don't need anything like Doom 3 visuals for the purposes of this project. DarkPlaces can already provide such visuals, we choose not to use them.

3) The Transfusion project, from an outsiders perspective, already looks to be very quiet, maybe even dead. Imagine how much quieter it would be if we diverted resources from our current game towards making any kind of demo in Doom 3 (any short term revitalisation of interest won't sustain the project in the long term). Any other member of the public is free to do their own Blood mod (keeping in mind issues with using original Blood media).

...and before someone debates the 3rd point Kazashi made, please accept our answer of "Thanks for the idea, but no thanks."

Anyone ambitious enough could start their own project on Doom 3, so the invitation is yours. The only catch is that you generally cannot use any Blood media (art, sound, etc.). Therein lies the need for reproducing textures, etc.

Actually it's not very necessary for anyone outside of North America. You can always use textures and sound you want because your work is profitless and the law can't engage you there. Even copyright owners wouldn't care to raise any cases.

They do though Ghoste. Remember the "All of MP3" debacle? True, they were actually charging for music on a large scale, but it does go to show that there are cross border legal skirmishes. They may not have a legal leg to stand on, however they can always try and sue your a$$ back to the stone age. It'd be safer just to do the retexturing thing. "Fair Use" is a murky path to tread unless you are doing it for political reasons.

Slink can use media from Blood and Blood 2 for the purposes of Transfusion, thanks to the permission Atari has given us via contract.

I doubt the law will stop people from using textures and sounds if they so desire, in some countries that even seems to be encouraged. But in a mod for a high profile game these things tend to be picked up more readily, and foxed more readily. We weren't going to take any chances regardless of our exposure.

As mentioned before, anyone else is free to make a Blood mod for whatever game, but if they want to use the original media they should try asking Atari themselves first.

Is that contract going to be published someday? I've always wanted to see it.
