HYPERTENSION [w/screens]

I started a new project less than a week ago for EDGE, a Doom-Based engine, that's based on Blood.

Screenshots Here

The level you are looking at is E1M1 of Blood. I'm changing it around enough (not using any original textures or flats, replacing with more high-res, realistic ones) to look more gritty. I can set RTS up and use linetypes to make it much more in spirit to Blood as well. The game will be OpenGL only and will feature things that Zblood left out, such as swimmable water, 3d models, truer weapon support (throw the TNT and it slides on the ground, waiting to explode, or implant a zombiedude with flares and wait for the fireworks), rotating sectors, higher-res textures, 3d Floors (room over room), and a much higher compatibility with Blood itself.

There's not too much progress yet but if you liked the original Blood, you should like this as well. I'm working on the project a couple of hours everyday and will incorporate a lot of elements in from Blood 2 as well.

Let me know what you guys think! Sorry for advertising, I know, it's shameless. :/

Hello Clair and welcome!

Just checked the link you provided and it looks like an interesting project! A Blood-y Doom wad does sound promising, so do keep us informed.

That said, this project does seem to be a hybrid of sorts (with regards to true 3d floors), and there's a lot of information on that site to get through, so forgive me if it sounds like I don't know what I'm on about. Another important fact: I'm drinking red.

Nevertheless, welcome to the forum!

It kinda looks Doom-y now because I just started the project, but eventually everything will be replaced to the point where you don't have to have the Doom IWAD or any of the resources.

Give it another week I think and it'll look killer ;) I know I'm changing a lot around but it's not going to be a straight port of Blood either... ^^

I think when people refer to this as Doom I kinda flinch a teensy  ...EDGE is basically based upon the Doom code but you can make things with it that look more on a level, of say, Unreal than anything else. This project will replace everything: code, textures, flats, render, everything about Doom so it's just based upon the Source Port and those features instead of the limitations of the old engine.

:P

No need to flinch. Doom's a class game!

Don't worry about appearence. Unreal might look better than Doom, but ultimately the two are of very different graphical styles.

Yeah but I've seen and played those attempts and I'm going to truly work hard to separate this from Doom as much as I can. The problem with Zblood is that it still felt very Doomy and I think a lot of the hype died because of the limitations. I'm going to remove those limitations and truly make it immersible.

^^

Glad the screens look good though. Going for a slightly darker style than regular Blood. ;)

Sorry for being a killjoy, but as stated in a previous thread, we are asking that any Hypertension discussion be directed to the Hypertension forums directly.

http://www.3dfxdev.net/smf/index.php/board,42.0.html

Unfortunately, due to the potential illegal nature of this Doom mod I'm going to move it to Unfortunate Bystanders.

If it's not a mod for either Blood, Blood 2, or Transfusion proper, please discuss the project elsewhere.
