AFAIK it's a lot like doing a map, except you don't need to compile at the end... Unless you change the skeletal structure in a skeleton-based model.
Fire up the model editor, make changes, save. Right?
The model still looks pretty dern good.

That model looks pretty complex by the old cube engine standards. I recently dl'ed cube and found the single player content fairly interesting if a little basic.

cube lacked depth so you might as well call it square

I thought the purpose of Cube was to be a building block.
It's just the essentials and it's open source so any depth would have to be created by whomever was using it, just like any other engine...

While still scouting out all things cubish I came upon this little gem:
http://quadropolis.us/node/1866
It's called newcube. Newcube has just released a playable alpha that isn't blood but it is cute as far as the last levels go.

@Joe
Hmmm, I haven't seen any fall damage yet and the v_weap view is missing but it does work, quite a lot like cube in fact. I chalk it up to newcube being alpha.
What error message do you get when you hit newcube.BAT?
Didn't you say you were using Vista?

That Newcube screenshot looks a lot like the Inferno episode on Doom.

"The application has failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect"
I had 2 different versions of Cube on my machine and hoped that was the problem but it wasn't. I tried on an independent machine with a clean install of Cube with the same problem. I also download the package again but still the same error. I have tried many, many addons for Cube and this is the only one that hasn't worked.

I have no knowledge of cube and how things are loaded with cube so here's a random groping in the dark. Did you try to run newcube with the standard cube engine? Newcube comes with its own slightly altered version of the cube engine, which it requires.
*grope, grope, falls flat on face, grope,*

You are wise in asking that very question my friend
but yes, I tried that and failed
thats why I was trying to piece it together in Sauerbraten.
Speaking of Sauerbraten, I am working out right now with the pc in the corner idling the game so I can listen to the soundtrack
