Wolf3D on the iPodTouch

Post by DustyStyx »

I always did like this game, and they ported it to the iPodTouch a little bit back, but today there was a pleasant update in that they included Spear of Destiny and the ability to download and play user made maps.

That's awesome. I wish the game had multiplayer like Doom, but there's been some ports of the game to the Doom engine with online multiplayer support so I guess that's good enough. :P

If you're asking for screenshots of the Doom port then go to my screenshots page and you should see them. I took a few just recently. http://www.xfire.com/screenshots/doomlancelot/

It's pretty obvious that I'm using an OpenGL renderer because I was playing it through Skulltag. The original HUD won't work in OpenGL, though. All the original graphics, sounds, music, and maps are in it. The only thing that's really different from the original is Doom's movement. I guess I'll post a link to the file since it was hard to find. http://www.mediafire.com/?hnji2mmjill

Enjoy! :)

Yeah I got a friend with an iPhone who I coerced to get the demo so I could play it. It's not bad but the controls can take a minute to get a memory for what thumb position affects the movement.

Yeah, the controls are a little odd, but not to bad. It has the saving grace that Wolf3D is pretty much 2D with a 3D view and thus no need to look up and down. But I imagine that could be handled with the screen tilt functionality.

This looks rad. Does it have the classic IMF soundtrack?

Everything is pretty much the same as I remember from the PC version, except the HUD and they've redone the look of the weapons. The sound is pretty much as I remember as well. Same clank of opening doors, same death calls of the dying Nazis, same music playing in the background.

Oh wow. I didn't notice the weapons.

Ultra cool.
