Paks, OGG, Music

Post by Guest »

Hello, I noticed that if you put a pak file in the Transfusion directory it plays all the original music from blood. How did you accomplish that? My cd rom drive doesn't play music anymore and that is great. I'd love to be able to make quake 2 play music from a pak file. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

Transfusion achieves this because the engine is capable of reading the file format used on the music in the pak file (Ogg Vorbis I think). To do the same with Quake 2 you'd probably have to rip the music in a similar fashion, then find an engine which supports your chosen format. It's probably not as simple as that, but there's the general idea.

A few Quake2 source ports enable in game winamp controls and such, however I do not know of any that emulates level track playback like DarkPlaces does. I can ask around though if there is an engine that does such.
