Increased Difficulty After Loading Saved Game

If I load a saved game after either dying or while falling to my death, or for any other reason, I noticed that the enemies started dealing more damage and taking more. Is this a bug or something?

There's a thread about this error over at gog. I don't think there's a solution for it.
