Music in Transfusion
How can I use the "MIDI soundtrack in MP3 format" package?
I downloaded it and unpacked the pak7.pak to the "basetf" dir, but nothing happens.

That is odd why is there a link to download a music pak that doesn't work with TF?

Any way is seems the only music pak that works is the CD one thats in OGG format.

I am sure that this discussion has been had, but was that decision because OGG vorbis has a better compression to quality ratio than MP3?
EDIT: Thank you for your reply.

To expand further, all audio is handled by the engine, and the engine is entirely GPL. MP3 is marred heavily by copyright and trademarks.
Ogg is a newer format, which has many features, and is completely within the license of the engine which we use.
Both formats have their ups and downs, and neither is really perfect as in their ideal usage, they are both 'lossy' formats. The only real downside to OggVorbis is that it is less commonly used. On the other hand, it is much more open, which means it has the potential for a longer lifespan.
For the purposes of Transfusion, Ogg is more than sufficient.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3#Licens ... ent_issues better explains part of the problems with mp3 licensing. While Transfusion is not commercial, the engine's license allows commercial user, and therefore cannot support mp3

Something being free does not automatically its license is applyable.
The point of GPL is keeping everything free and open. SDL is a free and open library, hence they don't include the codec themselves either. The same reason many linux distributors won't ship a product that has mp3 decoding directly programmed in.
mp3 has a very poor licensing system. OggVorbis is completely free, and always will be. The DarkPlaces engine is designed for open use to everybody under its license, which is why it shys away from discriminatory things such as mp3

Escorter, we don't seem to have restrictions on avatar size, but I think yours is a bit large... Did you select that, or did something else do it? I THINK I speak for the general public when I say, "Please change your avatar picture or make it be smaller. Thanks!"
