Did you download the latest beta?

Transfusion has been a standalone game for a long time. First versions were Quake mods.

You should just unpack the zip archive you downloaded (preserving directory structure) and run the executable found in the root folder, for example transfusion.exe if you're using Windows.

The beta shouldn't suffer from the long load times that Tfn 1.01 had. Still, try it again and just wait. Luke, what are your sys. specs btw?

Do you have correct directory structure in your Transfusion catalog?
Do you see basetf catalog there?

you might also try grabbing the latest build of DarkPlaces. It has better video support than the exe we packaged with TF 1.05 beta, 2 years ago.

You can get that from here: http://icculus.org/twilight/darkplaces/download.html

extract the zip into your Transfusion directory (don't worry about it overwriting the TFn files) and run DarkPlaces.exe in stead of transfusion.exe
