Ladder climbing in System Shock

I have a little problem: I forgot how to climb to a ladder in System Shock.

If I keep pressing the move forward key in front of the ladder and I press the jump key, the hacker only bang his head to the ladder, but he can't climb...

Just a guess (I've never played SS) but dont they have a "use/activate" key? How do you open doors?

You can open doors and use items by double-click on them. But that does not work on the ladders...

Are we talking System Shock 1 here? Because I haven't played that game in maybe 2 years by now. SS2 was just look up and hit forward though, if that's what you mean.

I've seen somewhere a "hacked" version of cdshock.exe that allowed you to play under winXP without any problems. Maybe this could help?

Wrong, I was playing mine today.

Sure, I quit in 5 minutes, but that's just because I realized how crappy SS1 plays nowadays and started trying to get SS2 to work again.
