Bioshock

Has anyone read much about this game?

Bunch of screenshots

I could really see Blood being redone a bit like this.

Update: It looks like gamespy has a fairly long article about it.

Same developer.

They lost the rights to the System Shock name (and other IP?) to EA in their last publishing deal and EA is now taking it a different direction I believe on consoles.

BioShock is considered to be the spiritual sequal to System Shock

Well, not as clean as that obviously. They are also planning on another year of development, they might "grungify" it some.

System Shock 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, even if I never finished it due to a glitch at the end (JESUS CHRIST, THAT WAS LIKE 30 HOURS DOWN THE DRAIN BECAUSE OF A GLITCH RIGHT BEFORE THE ENDING). Great atmosphere, great usage of RPG elements (at least, I think so), and you find yourself needing to strategize every now and then. Great fun.

Yes, ss2 is pretty cool. Same engine, or (variant thereof) as the Thief engine. Pretty good game, but is stated above, sometimes you will find yourself stuck in a buttf*** of strategy for like an hour. Also, corny graphics to a point. Has a very basic physics system. It was quite a good game. :) I bet it won't run correctly on newer systems.

This computer's new, runs perfect except the occasional temporary refusal to start.

System Shock 2..... now that was an experience. Even though I only played it a couple of years ago I was thoroughly sucked in by the atmosphere and gameplay, in a way few games seem to be able to these days. Made you actually think and work for results. I did install and run it in Win2k, so there shouldn't be issues with newer systems - I can get Thief and Thief 2 to run similarly, with the help of a Dark Engine game launcher IIRC.

Yep. It is immersive. You get past the corniness, and completely are sucked in to this work of art. It is actually quite clever, compared to most s*** nowadays. -Slink

There is a 14 minute trailer for BioShock up at IGN.com, it has developer commentary on it but is an amazing video.

The water effects are f*cking amazing, truely, the water drips, flows and pours over objects realistically. Very impressive.
The art style and graphics themselves are very impressive, looks equal to if not a bit better than Crysis.

And form the video the gameplay just oozes System Shock 2, the Plasmids (augs), different ammo types... alt paths and strategies to accomplish goals.
It shows off how you can use the enemy AI against each other... and damn it looks like fun.

You can also download a high res version of this trailer at...

www.filefront.com
www.gamershell.com
www.3dgamers.com

But it's about 350MB, but it's worth it. Enjoy.
