Doom and Quake finally on GOG

Post by Tchernobog »

Something which has been bothering me for a quite a long time was that id Software classics such as Doom and Quake were not available for purchase on GOG.com like almost every other classic '90s shooter was. Well, Bethesda has finally done something right with their purchase, and the games are now up for sale and currently have a 33% discount:

I am not sure what to do with this though. While it is true that I only need the games for their raw data to put in a source port, given how prompt GOG.com has been in putting out Linux DOSBox wrappers for Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior, and Dark Forces, I might just forgo the launch discount in the hope of picking them up later as an actual Linux sale.

Adding some of the more recent id Software titles, at least up to Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, would also be appreciated.

This is great. But I already bought all the Doom 1 and 2 content from Steam for like 5 dollars. Maybe I'll get the Quake stuff from GOG.

They have now added all of the Quake games up to Quake III Arena as well as Wolfenstein 3D and Return to Castle Wolfenstein:

That being said, asking $20 for Quake III in this day and age is absolutely outrageious Bethesda. :-x

So Bethesda is having a holiday sale event on GOG at the moment:

I picked up the Windows id Software games, namely Quake II: Quad Damage, Quake III: Gold, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein to play in source ports. I am still waiting on getting any of the DOS based ones in the hopes of getting a Linux DOSBox wrapper (they did so for all of the big three Build engine games, even Blood), but GOG also gifted me both of the original Elder Scroll games, something which might be useful if DaggerXL is really as far along as is claimed.

Now seems to be a good time to pick up some shooters on GOG.com.

You got the Bethesda Shooting Range for your id Software titles:

And you have the Flying Bullets Boulevard for a whole bunch of other titles including Blood:

Plus the Shadow Warrior remake is also on sale:

I bought the first two F.E.A.R. games myself. :guns:
