windows 2k 16bit subsystem?

Post by N0t_mINe »

Hello.

As many of you have doubtlessly already heard, the source code for windows 2k has been leaked. Assuming (a huge assumption) that ms were to give the leaked source the same open license that they recently gave some of their net.framework APIs, what would the chances be of some powerful coder building a decent host for build and other 16bit games? As you may recall, 2k had a very robust 16 bit subsystem.

Or Would making such a host work with modern hardware be too much of a nightmare?

Build is 32bit; it uses the DOS/4GW extender. Anyway, DOSBox and FreeDOS and ReactOS and Wine already play 16bit games.

I should have been more specific to Blood, although I tend to forget that I'm the last of the great dosbox haters. Swallowing my pride and trying to set up one of the DB distros setup for Blood specifically is something I should have tried by now, I know.

Loss of frame rate/ water sector bug ruin blood for me.
Ros can only run com games.
I am not familiar with wine for windows.

@Tcherno: Admittedly rare, I've seen it multiple times. If you find yourself outside swimming through the air or have an enemy swimming through the sky, that's it.
Usually happens near water.

Its been a over year since my last angry shutdown of blood on db. I may be extremely close to giving it another go.

Yeah I don't even play Blood anymore due to frame rate issues. Probably why I prefer Blood 2 more.

I must admit to most of my Blood experience having been though Dosbox, so I may not even know what I am missing.

Spoken truthfully though, I have not noticed any real frame rate problems myself since 2009.
