MMORPGs
Not much of a DnD fan, or a MMORPG fan in general (I really don't like the monthly fee idea) but this seems like it might actually work.

The short of the article is the idea of giving away the entry level stuff and charging for the more advanced levels. ie. once your hooked you're more likely to pay for the extras.

Alot of MMO's are moving to that type of model. Free, but pay for premium stuff.
Requiem is another that I can think of off the top of my head. If you like dark horror-themed games like Blood. It might be for you.

Everquest even went to something like this where you can play for free as long as you like in a certain area.[/url]

Sweet link Joe!
Guild Wars is doing this a bit as well, I guess. You've always had to pay the initial cost of purchasing the game, but they've recently added things where you can buy accessories to your account, extra storage, change the way your character looks, even just buy your character and skills up to a certain level if you aren't inclined to play through the missions to get them. It seems like a pale cop-out for the lack of add-ons they initially had planned, but oh well.

Planetside is the closest thing I can think of Slink.

Or Warrock:

And Gunz:
http://gunz.ijji.com/
I guess you could also throw the Battlefield series into that category.

This just came out recently and it seems really good except it costs money.Slink wrote:Does anyone know of any MMO FPS games? lol

Anyways, I've been playing Dragonica lately. It's an arcade style MMORPG and it's really fun. http://dragonica.thqice.com
