If you mean compatibility with Duke, does it mean you only add new textures and sprites in the end? More like duke mod then.

It shouldn't kill any compatibility if you are making it a separate game. Or you are doing a Duke mod that's supposed to work with Duke retail levels?

not caring about the levels shipped with duke, my main goal is playing AQUADM.MAP (non-Free user map) with a friend who can't possibly legally purchase Duke Nukem 3D data.
