I must agree with Cruaich :? The previous version looked a lot better.

I had the initial same reaction: that the previous version was better (and actually that it looked really bad). However, after taking a second look at it and thinking of real stained glass windows, I think you are right that the new version is much more realistic. It really does have an authentic stained glass look.

However, it is still kind of ugly and not completely in a good way. It probably needs to be dirtied-up and the brighter colors possibly darkened for it to look like it belongs in Blood (or Transfusion).

Nice work Fresh_meat. Either way you go with the two textures I think the metal wire that goes around the glass should have more detail.
Try using the lighen or darken brush modes in GIMP (you are using gimp right?) to give the wire some depth, try to give it the effect of being raised up higher than the glass (the lighter something is the more raised it looks and the darker the lower it looks.

Keep trying and don't get discoraged by critisism. You should see some of the first versions of my textures, they really sucked :P
Also try looking for source material (if you haven't already) on Google images or something.

Keep up the good work.

crude tiles

Post by Zardoz »

The most recent one looks like it was made with candy wrapper foil.

Still there is a more fundamental problem that has to do with the tile itself.
It's on the crude side to begin with. You might try declaring artistic license and improving not just the glass parts but the framing holding it together as well. That mouth for example, you could add teeth, round them off a little and shrink the out of proportioned size (originally it was eight giant square teeth slapped onto a face). maybe turn the edges up to hint at a smile?

Thanks for your comments. For now, I am finishing to color the picture and I will see later for more effects.

Jim: The differece between the two is that one looks crafted, the other looks manufactured.

Classic "painted" Staindglass vs. modern & cheep manufactured glass

Seriously though Fresh_meat, good work on it. my only slight complaint about the first one are the red dots in the squares along the edges. The edge of the dots seem to be a little to defined.

I need a little rest with tile265 so I made it. It's more realistic than the original tile 278.

That's not bad. I can pick out a few places where the texture does not tile correctly, so you might want to revisit that. You might also consider applying color #3C5448 to the entire texture to get the original color tone, that or adjust the color balance so that it comes out slightly more blue.

Glad your still working on textures. :D

Just going to ask, if you could change anything about your JoJo poster, what would it be?
