I don't know you guys. The game looks great, it has this Blood1 great feel and mood, but the lags spoil the fun COMPLETELY. I played it twice and deleted it because of ping between 200 and 1500 (even more).
You should concentrate on the netcode right nowe IMO, cause this game is unplayable... and I wish to play it so damn much.
Q1-3 has sucky net code. Anything with a ping over 150 needs some sort of Unlaged mod to even the playing field. Transfusion with even a semi current DarkPlaces executable is just as playable online as vanilla Q3A. Granted DarkPlaces will have a little more slip'n'slide than current Q3A, but the weapons acuracy is about the same.
well, i've always blamed my connection for the laggy game. I use ISDN and have ping up to 300 on the official server. Things should improve when I move on to ADSL.
What exactly is the definition of "netcode" here? Netcode for games? My dad might know some of this stuff, being a programmer in the communications field, but I'm not sure...
You could probably get a decent idea of what it is by skimming through the Unlaged source code
But to get into the real nitty-gritty of what it is, you'd probably have to talk to LordHavoc directly, or maybe Elric. Anyway Elric might reply to this but to get ahold of LH you'll have better luck visiting our IRC room. irc.anynet.org/transfusion.
Thanks Cruaich, I think I'll wait to see about Elric for a couple of days and then try to contact LordHavoc. Also, the Unlagged source appears to no longer exist as a download.
Note, that's Unlaged for Q3. I don't know how it would work with DarkPlaces... doubt if it works at all. Anyway LordHavoc was talking about reworking the netcode yet agian. You might checkout Nexuiz, it runs on the same Quake engine as Transfusion does.
