Almost everyone has been Zombiefied, the recently dead are up and about and
the world's systems have collapsed, the reason dosen't really matter all that matters is survival.
what would you do if a George A. Romero style zombie thing actually happened
consider Weapons, Food and defence how to get and set up each in a sustainable
way.

Ive been meaning to build a zombie/fallout type fortification. Cause you know we all want to do this in our spare time.
Poured concrete structure, transparent aluminum windows, a few well shielded grain silos and cisterns, and lots of multi-vitamins, and rad-x tablets. Also alot of technical manuals & other books.
Along side the hold, I would also have an "Anything-into-oil" processing plant. The idea would be to corral the zombies, drop them into a gargantuan meat grinder and process the whole mess into oil crude. The presure and heat of the conversion process is an efective way ensure the prion/bacterial/viral varient of the zombie infestation is eradicated. The side benifits of having a sustainable fuel source would also be apreciated. Expecialy in a "worst case senario" where the entire region were to be zombiefied and I'd have to deal with a couple million zombies.
Should the time come to leave the hold prematurely, chain mail would be fun, but a tad heavy. As zombies don't normaly have penitrating attacks, a carbon fiber suit of body armor might be more prudent as it would allow me to carry more amunition.
As for weaponry, I'd have to go with a couple of .45 handguns, broadsword and a few arkansas toothpicks for when things get realy nasty.
Failing all that I'd just have to high tail it out to the salt flats. You know how fond zombies are of salt.

Medieval armour isn't so good, it's heavy and cumbersome. It might help you against one zombie, but when a pack descends upon you, tearing at you with dozens of hands, you'll be in trouble. Forget a claymore or longsword, you want something like a gladius (if you're brave enough to get that close) or a katana. Chainsaws will run out of fuel, rendering them little more than an unwieldy club.
A boat can make a decent safehouse, but remember the effects of salt water corrosion, and that you may need to stop at a port for resupply.
Damn I love that book! Can't wait for the next one.
