This is simply a more alarming report on peak oil.
It basically says that even if we started now, there's nothing we could do to counter the chaos near or at the time of peak oil.
It is too late

An interesting post, indeed. Thanks much. I found it interesting (also) what the first poster said:
This is nonsense. The amount of even the known oil reserves is kept secret (if not deliberately obsfucated) by the oil companies.
If this report summarized 500 studies then it's only as good as the "studies"---which are more likely politicized, vetted, private company reports about oil output. And those companies aren't about to reveal their secrets.
Even if the worst did happen, we've had the technology since the 1980s to turn coal in to gasoline very easily, and we have gigantic reserves of coal.
This article is hyped-up misinformation by those pushing a global warming, de-industrialization agenda. It also reflects intuitive fears about western cultures (especially the UK) reaching an irrevocable demographic tipping point around 2030.
a bit of a bump.
Steps toward Carbon-based Solar cells. Note that this is important because Ruthenium-based solar cells (what we have now) are toxic when their useful shelf-life is over. The act of producing and decommissioning Ruthenium-based cells, makes the whole loop very close to a zero sum endeavor.
Also, in relation to peak oil: A lecture about exponential growth, Arithmetic, Population and Energy
