Re: And so the war comes here.

I'm sure you're aware of the intense conflict going on around the Hypertension Mod. Like Joe, I visit these forums daily. But I read almost exclusively Transfusion related threads, so actually I didn't even know this mod before you mentioned it here. :) As for Postmortem forums, I may have visited ...

Take a look at the ReBUILD page. My guess is you want the ART tools, Sfx2Wav and RFF (or their GUI counterparts). Prebuild Win32 binaries for the command line tools are available from the snapshots page

If TFn were to switch engines, it would be based on top of an engine, not a game/mod. It would be based on ioq3, which is the engine that Open Arena uses, or xreal, a fork of ioq3. I understand all mention of OA so far has likely been in terms of testing what the Q3 engine could do with the current...

Do you know whether OpenArena has integrated the complete unlagged code? Its changelog mentions "Unlagged tracehits" (version 0.7.6) and that "Chaingun works in unlagged now" (version 0.8.1). But it's not very clear to me how much "unlagged" OA is.

Do you mean that an unlagged mod is necessary to make Q3 network code behave nicely? I mean, for high pings this is probably unavoidable, but if it's also required for low ping games, maybe the Q3 net code isn't that better than DP net code after all :(

I don't remember having played DP online ever, but from what I was told, it's not good. So I guess you can add "online play smoothness" to your list.

And for a multiplayer oriented game, it's definitely a major one.

I could move it, but why? We've had this discussion before. It's even in the FAQ for crying out loud. Well, given the topic of this thread, I think we will not only talk about "switching to the Source engine", but about the general goals and technical choices of this project. Also, more g...

No offense Andrew, but you are doing exactly what I think we should stop doing: keeping the discussions about TFn in The Cabal forums. :P Could you please move this thread to "Transfusion Discussion" ? As for HL2 / Steam, I know you're a big proponent of that. Source is probably a very goo...

Well, as a programmer myself, I guess I have a different perspective when using a software in general, and a video game in particular. That said, I'm definitely NOT used to compare other games menus to my own work, since it's far from being my area of expertize :) (even though I actually accumulated...

My big part in TS3 was the World Tour (ranked online tournament). But I also did several little pieces of code here and there, like the code for pads a...

Well, technically I was already in the gaming industry when I started ReBUILD (let alone qBlood / Transfusion) with Greg and Tim. So I can't say this project "inspired" me for that. As for what I do now, I just moved to WizarBox (a small French studio). I'm currently working on porting a g...

You'd do better if you released the code. Both the engine code and the game code are free to download and use since day 1 for this project. The engine is DarkPlaces ( http://icculus.org/twilight/darkplaces/ ) and the game code is on SourceForge (homepage: http://blood.sourceforge.net/ ; code: http:...
