Re: I miss the bad old days of IPX

The Windows key can be disabled. I forget exactly which tool we used with Windows 95, but I think it was an old version of WinKey Killer . Of course anybody who wanted to hit the Windows key on purpose to freeze a DOS game and send the network out of sync during a LAN party .... would deliberately f...

I miss the bad old days of IPX

Why back in the old days, we had LAN parties so big, we couldn't even fit everyone into the same BloodBath. Ten players! Half of the guys had to change to a different IPX socket number, and it was a gamble to see which network game would go out of sync first, or who would accidentally on purpose pre...

Re: windows 2k 16bit subsystem?

Build is 32bit; it uses the DOS/4GW extender. Anyway, DOSBox and FreeDOS and ReactOS and Wine already play 16bit games.

in-game joining, Spectre, 1991

Blood2 supports joining a game already in-progress, but does Blood? As far as I know, the answer is no, the number of network players in Blood is chosen at launch time and only ever decreases when players leave. Apparently in-game joining was something of a lost technology for a few years. This morn...

Re: reducing DarkPlaces dedicated CPU load

Haven't mentioned it on any other forum since the main problem I was having was Transfusion chewing the CPU, and most of the load was caused by a bug that's specific to Transfusion. The TSC patch is of interest only if someone insists on running DarkPlaces-WinQuake on a Windows server with an unreli...

Ooops. Ironically I introduced a resource leak in the engine if ~MHz is not found in the registry. Fixed.

Re: reducing DarkPlaces dedicated CPU load

The engine patch is against recent DarkPlaces.

To get that geniune Transfusion experience with recent DarkPlaces, you need the HUD patch from Willis.

Re: reducing DarkPlaces dedicated CPU load

I'm just mentioning this stuff in case someone finds it useful. None of the changes I made to the QC in 2013 were merged into the Transfusion repository, and I hope termit found the Transfusion HUD patch because it was never merged into the DarkPlaces repository either.

reducing DarkPlaces dedicated CPU load

So I've been running a Transfusion server for a while, and I've been plagued constantly by high CPU load. Sometimes the load literally reaches 100% and players complain, why it lag. Finally I know why. Muzzle flashes leak entities. QC patch: http://pastebin.com/g3vAam8J Before I concluded that there...
